About the Campaign
Age: 12 years
Single Mother: Ritu Maya Dhahal
Young Rishaka Dhahal, after never really knowing her father who had passed away when she was only 2 years old, watched her mother struggle to raise her by doing Labour Work whenever she could get it. Seeing this, Rishaka decided she wanted to become a Social Worker when and if she could finish school.
We met Rishaka in school when she was inspired to apply for our Student Leadership Council. Though she wasn’t able to become a member, Rishaka showed great passion for helping others and we decided to hear her family and her story.
Rishaka’s mother Ritu, struggling to pay rent, food, travel and other demanding living expenses, shared about her son, and how she was overwhelmed with gratitude that her son gained support from a neighbour to continue his +1 education (Grade 11). Ritu then shared her desperation to allow her daughter, with so much potential, to also continue her education. This is when we decided to help.
